excavations highlighted six women artists in the fine arts program at the University of Waterloo. The exhibition considered the underlying expositions and investigations of the body as site; the seduction of primed surfaces plays with the tension of what lies beneath, the contrasting sensual and clinical characteristics of each work calls back to what it means to excavate, to hollow out and create cavities for exploration, for refuge. Although each work asks of varying levels of examination, the disembodied affect relieves the consideration of any serious vessel. Instead one asks; what is at the root of this unyielding dig?
